Kaundinya
Wildlife Sanctuary, Palamaneru
This sanctuary is located 50 Km
from Chittoor and 120 Km from
Bangalore by road. It covers an
area of 358-sq-kms. The area is
covered by southern tropical
thorn type of forests,
consisting of flora Albiziaamara,
Ficusreligiosa, Ficustomentosa,
Ficus Bengalensis and Bamboo.
The flora also consists of a
species, which is a regeneration
of 'santalum' album. The habitat
of Kaundinya sanctuary is rugged
with high hills and deep
valleys. The Kaigal and
Kaundinya are two streams, which
flow through the sanctuary.
Tourists can find a wide variety
of animals like Cheetal, Four
horned Antelope, Sambhar, Mouse
Deer, Hare, Porcupine, Wild
boar, Jungle Cat, Jackal, Sloth
Bear, Panther, Jungle Fowl,
Peafowl's and Elephants.

Wildlife Sanctuary, Jannaram
Established in 1965, the
sanctuary spreads over 893sq.km
with dry deciduous teak forest,
bamboo and miscellaneous species
of flora. Cheetal, Sambar,
Nilgai, Muntjac(barking deer),
Indian Bison(Gaur), Sloth Bear,
Panther, Tiger and variety of
birds are seen in the sanctuary.

Kinnerasani
Wildlife Sanctuary, Kinnerasanim
This Wildlife Sanctuary lying on
the Right Bank of the Godavari
River forms a part of the
Dandakaranya forests in Khammam
district. It is situated 12-km
from Paloncha, Khammam District.
It extends over an area of
635.4-sq-kms It derives its name
from the river Kinnerasani,
which bisects the sanctuary and
ultimately drains into the
Godavari River.
The sanctuary represents dry
deciduous mixed type forests
with teak, bamboo and terminals.
Other species found here are
Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi
Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango,
Tendu. Main attractions of the
sanctuary are the Deer Park,
Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir
with Jaladrushyam Guest house.
Many perennial springs known as
"Togus" flow through this
sanctuary along with Kinnerasani
Rallavagu.
Animals like Cheetal, Black
Bucks, Chinkaras, Chousinghas,
Sambhars, Wild Boars, Gaurs,
Wild Dog, Hyena, Jackals, Sloth
Bear, Panthers, Tigers, and a
variety of bird species like
Peafowl, Jungle Fowl, Qualis,
Partridges, Doves, Ducks, Teals,
Spoonbills, Nuktas, Open bill
stork, come to nest and graze in
Kinnersani lake. Reptiles like
Python, Cobra, Kraite and Vipers
can also be seen.
A holiday home glass guesthouse,
Eco park near dam, Environmental
Education Centre and Luxuriant
forests along the fore shore of
the Reservoir are other tourist
attractions of this place.

Kolleru
Lake Bird Sanctuary, Kolleru
The largest fresh water lake in
Asia, Kolleru lake is a virtual
paradise for nature lovers. Rich
in flora and fauna, it attracts
migratory birds from Australia,
Siberia, Egypt and Philippines
between the months of October
and March. During this season,
the lake is visited by an
estimated 2,00,000 birds, which
include Open Bill Storks,
Painted Storks, Glossy Ibises,
White Ibises, Teals, Pintails,
Shovellers, Red-Crested Pochards,
Blackwinged Stilts, Avocets,
Common Redshanks, Wigeons,
Gadwalls and Cormorants, among
Others.
It is known the world over for
the famous Kolleru Bird
Sanctuary. This 673 sq.Kms wet
land marsh habitat supports a
large veriety of Water birds
which include
Garganys,ducks,Open bill storks,
Herons, Flamingos & grey
pelicans.

Mahaveer
Harina Vanasthali National Park,
Hyderabad
The park is located at
Vanasthalipuram, at a distance
of 20 km from the city and
originally the area was under
the Nizam. The park was
established in 1977.
The flora is of dry scrub jungle
with grass lands. Major plant
species found here are Neem,
Butea (Flame of the forest),
Acacias, Bauhinias etc. apart
from a variety of thorny scrub
species.
The park is famous for the
endangered Black Buck, the state
animal of Andhra Pradesh.
The other species of animals
commonly seen are Monitor
Lizards, Mongooses, Porcupines
and Hares besides a variety of
Snakes.
The avian fauna of the park
comprises over 100 species and
includes Partridges, Quails,
Peacocks, Doves and birds of
prey like Kites, Vultures etc. A
variety of migratory birds can
also be seen round the year.
Short-toed Eagle is another rare
species nesting in this area.
This center offers audio-visual
education on nature and wildlife
and is supported by a good
nature library. An exhibition
hall displaying exhibits
explaining intricate problems of
wildlife conservation.

There are sheds for rest and
observation towers for viewing
the animals. A van is provided
to take the visitors inside the
park to see the animals from
close quarters.
From 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
daily except Mondays.
The safari rides are between
