Kodikkarai Beach

Also called Point Calimere, the Wild Life Sanctuary here spreads 333.3 Sq Kms with 25 Kms of tropical dry evergreen forests. It is bounded by Bay of Bengal on the East and Palk Straits on the South. It is situated South ofVelankanni.

One can see mammals like bluebuck, spotted deer, wild boar, semi wild ponies, bonnet macaque: water birds like flamingoes, ibises, herons, spoonbills, olive ediely. Sea turtle, starred tortoise, vipers, marsh crocodiles, etc. are some of the endangered reptiles.

There are also many species of marine animals and flora. This spot offers different kinds of land mass from marsh to wetlands, Backwaters to lake. It is open throughout the year from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00p.m.

Kurusadai Island

This is an ecological paradise situated off Mandapam. It is notable for coral reefs and rare species of marine lives such as Dolphins. Permission from the Fisheries Department in Chennai is necessary to visit the Islands.

Mahabalipuran BeachMahabalipuran Beach

Mahabalipuram, also known, as "Mamallapuram" is located 58-km, south of Chennai, nestling on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, offers many breath-taking monuments with Sculptural Panels, Caves, Monolithic Rathas (chariots) and Temples.

The spectacular beach of Mahabalipuram attracts thousands of tourists all through the year. While at the beach you may sun bathe, relax and unwind yourself. At the same time you may explore the magnificent monuments besides the beautiful beaches. The dreamy rock cut art is an amazingly extravaganza. For the more ecclesiastical tourists there are the temples besides the shores, rathas, Arjuna's penance that are exclusive to the region. A crocodile bank, snake venom extracting centre, schools of art and sculpture and a wide spectrum of resorts along the beach entice holiday-seekers all round the year.

Mahabalipuram may be easily reached. Mahabalipuram is well linked through air, rail and road networks. The nearest airport of Chennai connects Mahabalipuram with the other main cities of India and the world through frequent air flights and trains. In terms of the road transport buses knit the terrestrial network Pondicherry, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Chennai et al ply to Mahabalipuram.

Mammallapuram BeachMamallapuram Beach

58 Kms from Chennai, Once a port and the second capital of the Pallava Dynasty, Mamallapuram flourished during 7- 8th centuries. The monuments of Pallava, the proto type of the Dravidian Temple Architecture, lure every visitor to this town. The monuments, scooped out of natural rocks are of monolithic type. Mamallapuram has been declared by United Nations as one of the world Heritage centres.

The Dance Festival from December to February is highly acclaimed. One of the monuments - Arjuna's penance - stands as a back drop for the stage. For over 1500 years this small town has awakened to the tune of hardened steel on stone as its craftsmen begin a new day. The pristine glory of the 8th century temple adds splendour to the beach here.

Mandapam Beach

Mandapam is the main land linking the Island of Rameswaram. It is the Gateway to many small islands. It is bestowed with a quite beach for sun and surf.
