Lahore has a host of
venues for cultural
activity including
cultural centers of
four different
countries. The
foreign cultural
centers provide a
variety of services
such as language
classes and library
facilities as well
as setting for other
activities e.g.
drama & dance
performances, film
festivals, art
exhibitions etc.
Alhamra Cultural
Complex

The beginnings of
Alhamra were made in
a modest house
situated on The
Mall. The original
founders
included
eminent writers Syed
Imtiaz Ali Taj, Dr.
Taseer and Faiz
Ahmed Faiz, artist
Abdur Rehman
Chughtai, eminent
bureaucrats B.A.
Qureshi and Zafarul
Ahsan Lari, and
well-known
politician Mian
Mumtaz Daultana. The
building, although
deficient in many
ways, provided the
possibility for
staging theatrical
performances and
paintings
exhibitions.
The present cluster
of buildings is
designed by the
famous Lahore
architect Nayyar Ali
Dada and its Phase
I, 1000-seat
auditorium was
inaugurated in 1981.
Other structures,
which were
subsequently
constructed, include
an Art Gallery, a
430-seat auditorium
for theatrical
performances. Music
Block with a 225
seat auditorium,
recording studios
and music class
rooms. The open
spaces around the
various interlinked
structures are of
equal importance and
are often used for
conducting painting
classes
Alhamra auditoriums
have played an
important role in
the rejuvenation of
theatre and is a
well-used facility
for theatre of all
kinds—from popular
to the most refined
proscenium theatre.

it provides an
exciting arena where
functions are held
to the enormous
excitement of the
participants, A
crafts collection is
housed at the lower
level of the
coliseum.
Attached to the
coliseum is a
permanent Art
Gallery exhibiting
works of old masters
and contemporary
artists alike.
While visiting the
stadium, you might
like also to examine
the small gallery
exhibiting a
collection of
calligraphic works.
In case you would
like to learn the
art of calligraphy,
noted calligraphers
provide lessons and
guidance.
