The most modestly
priced food is
available at the
stalls in Burnes
Road, Lea Market
area, Napier Road,
Behind Civil
Hospital, Tariq
Road, Bahadurabad
and Hill Park. Out
of all the areas,
Burnes Road eateries
and food stalls have
the most to offer if
reasonably-priced
Pakistani
specialties are what
you are looking for.
Not on the same
scale nor the same
budget price range
as Burnes Road Food
Bazaar, other food
districts can be
found near all major
shopping centers
such as Tariq Road,
Clifton's Boat
Basin, Defense's
Zamzama and Park
Towers at Old
Clifton.
On or around I.I.
Chundrigar Road
(McLeod Road) are
several eating
places that you
might want to try
out, as well as
Pizza Hut,
McDonald's and the
local fast food
chain Mr. Burger.
Inexpensive Food
Bazaar
Burnes Road
Can your system
handle it? If it is
up to the challenge
you must try out the
Burnes Road area for
inexpensive, yet
delicious Pakistani
food. Here within
the radius of one
kilometer, an area
encompassing Bin
Qasim Road (Burnes
Road),
Shahrah-e-Liaquat (Prere
Road) and a host of
surrounding streets,
are dozens of
eateries and food
stalls lining the
kerbside, offering
an amazing variety
of food. There are
Kebab Shops, Nihari
Joints, Stalls
selling Katchori,
Lassi, and the ever
popular sweetmeats.
Going to Burnes Road
district is like
walking through one
giant, stretched-out
food bazaar.
The culinary
activities on Burnes
Road begin early in
the morning—starting
with the preparation
of Halwa-puri and
Bhujia, a breakfast
delicacy. The wafer
thin Puris (flat
unleavened fried
bread) are made from
maida (flour) and
eaten with Aloo ki
Bhujia (spicy
potatoes). The Halwa
(sweet semolina) has
to be ordered
separately. This
delicacy is heavy on
the stomach but
surprisingly light
on the pocket!
After the breakfast
fare, preparation
for mid day snacks
begins. These
delectable snacks
include Fruit Chaat,
Choley Chaat,
Pani-puri, Dahi
Bhallay and Rabri.
Lunch-time finds
restaurants serving
their
specialties—the
traditional Gala
Kebab and Haleem
making it high on
the list of
delicacies, if sales
are anything to
judge them by. Lunch
time is also the cue
for the gaily
decorated push carts
to arrive, setting
up temporary stalls
in the vicinity.
These mobile
kitchens serve Bun
Kebabs, Qorma (meaty
curry) and Biryani
(spicy rice).
Activities cool down
a bit after lunch
time, something that
could be attributed
to the midday siesta
habit, no doubt
practiced even today
by some, but more
likely due to the
afternoon sun. The
business picks up
before sunset, at a
time when people
leaving their
offices make a stop
over to Burnes Road,
and peaks in the
evening. This is
when people from all
walks of life come
to the district in
search of
inexpensive yet
delicious meals.
Dinner items include
Nihari, Gold Kebab
and Haleem etc.
After an overdose of
masalas, nothing is
more comforting than
washing down all
those spices with a
big glass of Lassi
made from homemade
yoghurt, chilled and
served with either
salt or sugar,
depending upon your
taste.

Bumes Road area try
