As is usual in a large city, Lahore has several clubs that offer social and cultural activities. Some are extremely exclusive. The most well-known ones are: The Punjab Club, GOR I (tel. 636-4750,636- 4760,637-0560) is open to members only with selective membership; Defence Club, Lahore Cantt. (tel. 823-995, 893-379, 572-3985); Services Club, 71, Tufail Road, Lahore Cantt. (tel. 669-96300 to 301; fax 665-4297); Civil Services officers Club (tel. 920-0132,920-0237, Quaid-e-Azam), (tel. 575-6690 to 95, 575-6492, 575-6795).

Lahore Polo Club

Golf Lane, G.O.R. I, (tel. 631-0285; fax 631-5031).

The Lahore Polo Club provides all the facilities to enjoy the aristocratic game of polo. It is among the oldest polo clubs of the world. Sultan Qutub-uddin Aibak, who died reportedly after his fatal fall from a horse while playing polo is credited with having popularized the game with rulers and public alike. Lahore has been considered the hub for polo for centuries.

Lahore Polo Club's beginnings were made in 1886 when 62 acres of land were acquired. It is situated in the middle of a park in the choicest part of Lahore and is a popular venue for local and foreign players alike. The polo sessions begin in October and culminate in early April. The oldest Polo Trophy is the Punjab Cup instituted in 1886. The Club has hosted teams from Argentine, USA, England, Australia, Brazil, India, Iran, Jordan, Nigeria, Ireland, Singapore and China. The Club has been honored by the presence of many heads of state and royals such as Prince Philip of the U.K. and Prince Hasan bin Talal of Jordan.

The Club also runs a riding school. The timings for lessons are 5:00 am to 7:00 am and 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm during summer, and 6:00 am to 8:00 am and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm during winter on Wednesdays.

Lahore Flying Club

Walton Aerodrome, (tel. 588-2606 to 07; fax583-5056). The first flying club of the subcontinent, it was established in 1932. In the early years of Pakistan, the Club was utilized for training of Pakistan Air Force pilots as well as those who were employed by Pakistan International Airlines established in 1954.

The Club has played a key role in promoting air mindedness and has helped friendly countries in the promotion of aviation by training their pilots. Presently the Club owns 2 Twin Engine and 5 Single Engine aircraft.

The Club issues Student Pilot License, Flight Radio Telephone Operator License, Private Pilot's License, Private Pilot's License (Technical Subjects), Commercial Pilot's License, Commercial Pilot's License (Technical Subjects) etc.

Royal Palm Golf & Country Club

52, Canal Bank Road, (tel. 687-1961 to 64; fax 687-1965; email info@rpgcc.com; web www.rpgcc.com). Among the latest clubs to appear on Lahore scene, on the site of Railway Golf Club, RPGCC is fast becoming the favorite spot for golf and recreation.

The Club is spread over 120 acres and includes golf academy, driving range and lighting. There are three swimming pools, male and female gyms, three squash courts and tennis courts. The banquet hall and golf lodges provide stay and dining facilities in extremely pleasant surroundings. Because of its exclusive nature, it has a high membership fee.
