A.P.State Museum, Hyderabad

A visit to the Andhra Pradesh State Museum is a delight for art lovers. Located in the picturesque Public Gardens, the museum boasts of one of the richest repositories of antiques and art objects in the country. Built in 1928 by the Nizam VII, the museum building itself is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architecture.

The museum contains a Buddhist gallery, Brahmanical & Jain gallery, Bronze gallery, Arms & Armour gallery, Numismatics gallery, Ajanta gallery and more. Adjacent to the State Museum is the Contemporary Art Museum.

Amaravati MuseumAmaravati Museum, Amaravati

The collection includes the antiquities from other Buddhist sites in Andhra Pradesh belonging to the 3rd Century BC to about the 12th Century AD, a gold necklace from Gummadidurru, relic-caskets with bone-relics and gold flowers.

The exhibits in the Museum are arranged in different galleries.

Gallery I
This gallery displays some of the selected examples of the art-tradition of Amaravati, besides an inscribed relief of Buddha from Gummadidurru. Image of Buddha, Coins, Beads, Terracotta, Pottery, Drum slabs, Dome-slabs, Pillars & Rail fragments and Miscellaneous Sculptures.

Gallery II
The exhibits in the gallery comprise a few early relics of the 2nd Century BC, inscribed pillars, drum & dome slabs,Two Buddha images from Alluru and a stone-wheel from Lingarajapalli.

35 km Guntur and 70 km from Vijayawada. From Guntur, Amaravati is well connected by bus and there are frequent buses from Guntur. Private transport is also available.

Bhagavan Mahavir Government Museum, Cuddapah

A museum of historical and archeological significance is the Bhagavan Mahavir Government Museum in Cuddapah. It is a treasure house of ancient stone sculptures, bronze icons and inscriptions dating back to several centuries. The Museum was established in 1982 with donations from a local Jain businessman and hence it was named after Mahavir

District Archeological MuseumDistrict Archeological Museum
(Gupta gardens), Nizamabad

The District Archeological Museum houses number of artefacts and anthiquities representing the evolutions of human civilisation right from Paleolithic to Asafjahi times ( i.e., 16th AD ) .

The museum is broadly divided into 3 sections namely
A) Archeological Sections
B) Scuptural Gallery
C) Bronze and Decorative Gallery

Bidri ware, art arms, weapons and miniature paintings are also displayed.

Kolanupaka MuseumKolanupaka Museum, Kolanupaka

Kolanupaka came into prominence when it was made the capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas in the 11th century AD. The State Department of Archaeology and Museums established a sculptural gallery, which exhibits artefacts collected from the various historical monuments of Kolanupaka. Artefacts from both the Chalukyan and Kakatiyan styles are displayed in the museum. The museum has more than 100 images collected around Kolanupaka.
