Vajra first of all offers an
architectural feast harmonising beauty
and practicality. Doors and windows
designed and carved by Utam Raj of Patan,
who descends directly from the carvers
of the great Durbars of Kathmandu
Valley.

Tibetan Master, wall frescos in the
restaurant are painted by Bimal Moktan
the outstanding Tamang Painter, are some

The site itself, near the powerful
Bijeswori temple complex, from which the
area derives its name, stands on the
age-old pilgrim's road to Swayambhu.
On any early morning you may join the
pilgrims, Nepali, Tibetan, Bhutanese. In
fact you may see a Buddhist from any
part of the world on their ascent to the
great two thousand years old Stupa which
offers an extraordinary panorama of the
sacred Valley and the high Himalayas.
The Rooftop Gardens of the hotel
provides a magnificent morning or sunset
panorama of the snowy peaks of the
Himalaya, looking directly on the
Pagodas of Durbar Square (Center of
medieval Kathmandu) and up to the

The Pagoda Bar on the rooftop overlooks
the entire Kathmandu Valley. It offers a

The Great
Pagoda Hall
The Great Pagoda Hall is on the Rooftop
of Hotel Vajra's Main-building. This
Hall has the largest and most beautiful
Tibetan Ceiling Frescos . With its
private Rooftop Terrace with view of the
Swayambhunath Stupa - the Great Pagoda
Hall is one of the most unforgettable
spaces in Asia. Here the Classical Dance
Performances and Music-evenings take
place. Our Guests are also invited to
have a Morning Meditation or Yoga here.
Kala Mandapa
Institute of Nepalese Performing Arts
The Classical Dance Performances take
place in the Great Pagoda Hall. These
Dances give a very special and authentic
view of the ancient arts of Nepal.
Rajendra Shrestha founded Kala Mandapa
in 1981. He is Director, Dancer and
Choreographer and has a deep knowledge
of the ancient dances and their music,
which are based on the Hindu/ Buddhist
Pantheon.
Studion 7 - An Actor's Ensemble
Studio 7 is an International Actor's
Ensemble based in Kathmandu, Nepal. It
was founded in 1981 and has since
performed under the direction of Sabine
Lehmann, The Director.
Studio 7 has at present actors, dancers
and musicians from Nepal, India, Tibet,
USA, Germany, France & England. The
performances are in English.
Studio 7's acting technique brings
together movements, sound, poetry and
the visual arts to create dynamic mis-en-scenes
in a style which could be called Magic
Realism. Studio 7's aim is to produce
laughter, astonishment and wonder.
The Director, Sabine Lehmann, is a
graduate of the Max-Reinhardt-Schule,
Berlin and former ensemble member of the
Freie Volksbuehne and Grips Theatre,
Berlin. In 1972 Lehmann joined the
Theatre of all Possibilities (TAP), an
American based ensemble group that
toured worldwide. There she gained most
of her international thetre experience
which influenced her decision to form an
ensemble of actors in Kathmandu with
different cultural backgrounds,
traditions and experience.
Studio 7 mainly performs in its own
place, Hotel Vajra's Naga Theatre.
