A
city of good
summer/winter
sunshine. A lovely
place to visit in
winters. An
international level
and free sports
facility and
library. A safari
park and loads of
rustic life on show.
This city also
offers a Zoo which
is one of its kind.
it has a big
population of lions,
including Bengal
tigers.
Bahawalpur is small
and its easy to find
your way around the
town. Its a nice
place to spend a few
days if you are
tired from being in
big cities like
Lahore and Multan,
or tired of being in
the middle of
nowhere in Cholistan.
The central bazar
still feels quite
historical, although
a bit ramshackle.
The Cantt area is
nice and relatively
green.
Accommodation
PTDC Motel
The PTDC Motel is
quite nice; cottages
set around a garden.
Friendly staff who
can organise tours
and cars etc, and in
a quiet part of town
just southeast of
the bazar and the
zoo, in Cantt. More
expensive
than
budget options, but
worth it if you want
somewhere quite nice
and quiet.
Day Trips
From Bahawalpur
to Uch
Worth organising a
car and driving the
2 hours from
Bahawalpur to Uch.
Uch is a small
town/village with
over 10 important
shrines, including
the beautiful Bibi
Jawindi Shrine.
Young guys from the
village will come up
to you once you
arrive and volunteer
to be a guide; its
worth going with
them as they are
good at finding the
ways around the
backstreets of the
town and they are
friendly and
helpful. You have to
give them some money
at the end if you
enjoyed their
assistance (100-200
rupees, say).
Interesting history
and nice to be in a
village/town with
its unchanging
feeling and some
quite beautiful
buildings. |
